Project Motivations

After years of creating design prototypes, I decided to take on a new learning project and immerse myself into a mobile development project. The goal is to take an app idea from a sketch to a functional app that users can get mental health benefits from.

Problem / Solution

Many of us have heard that journaling is good for us. Regular reflection helps us plan and process our busy lives. However, a blank page is a deterrent and creating a regular habit of it can be even more challenging.

Peak Progress aims to solve that. The way Calm & Headspace helped folks create a meditation habit, I hope to for journaling. With prompt cards and curated categories, users have endless inspiration helping them write to create personal growth.

Through guided journaling sessions, I believe we can become more aware, disciplined, and stronger versions of ourselves.

Ideation

Starting with artwork, photographs, and graphics, I started pulling together what I saw as the ethos of the app. An identity that can speak to those who seek more out of life.

Design Prototypes

After some moodboarding and initial wireframe sketches, I took the concepts into a few mobile mocks with components to give structure to the information architecture of the app.

v1.0 Development

After more refining, I took my protoype imagery and started building out the core functionalities of the app with Swift in Xcode. I also was able to play around with our tools and AI models to experiment with new ways of writing code.

After a few weeks of writing code and debugging during my nights and weekends, I put together a version of the app to use with TestFlight on iOS.

What's Next

My next steps will be to continue adding journal prompts to the app, upload for more user testing, and then make some posts on social media to have folks check out the app and hopefully get value from the project.

Notes

Closing Thoughts

I found this project to be a great learning experience. I plan on continuing to use mobile development as a fun learning project, allowing me to also excel as a bridge between design and development teams in the future.
